On Saturday 11th  June, we had Transformer Club

Transformer Club is for children who are 5 – 11 year olds and meets on a Saturday afternoon,
once a month, between 2.00 and 4.00 pm on the church premises.  The cost is £1 per session per child.

There is music, stories, cooking, games, and craft,  but not necessarily all at the same time!

Theme this time was Water (for all), and we also learnt from the story of king George, who spent all his time in his bath-tub
with his rubber ducks, not to be selfish.

Next Club afternoon will be on Saturday July 16th.

The Annual Quiz, in aid of the new Church Project, held on the evening of Saturday 5th March 2011 in Wesley Hall.

Sunday 26th Sept :  Did you enjoy HARVEST FESTIVAL & BACK TO CHURCH SUNDAY !

This year’s Harvest Festival services were held on Sunday, 26 September and you brought along your gifts of non-perishable
food items which will again be donated to the Women’s Refuge.  The 10:30 a.m. service included Church Parade for the
uniformed organisations, after which they held a cake sale in Wesley Hall to raise money for the Shelter Box appeal.
MRDF envelopes were in the pews and your donations were gratefully received. Our wonderful Church was again decked
out with some beautiful floral displays.
Also, Monday, 27th September : was the Community Harvest Service at 2 pm, which gave us a chance to meet some of
the many people who use our Church premises during the weekdays.

Almost all of the contents of Lichfield Road Methodist Church, Aston, at which worship ceased just over 12 months ago, have been taken to Methodist
Churches in this circuit. South Parade has been delighted to receive 4 collapsible tables and the wooden cross from the worship area which is now in
prime position on the wall in Wesley Hall.  It looks as if if has been there for many years and is a fitting place for it.
The stewards of Lichfield Road are delighted it has been found a home.

It has been a very sad and distressing time for the members and friends of Lichfield Road some of whom did not wish the church to close. But it had
reached the stage where insufficient people were willing to take up the tasks of running a church.

On a brighter note we are delighted to report that more people are regularly attending three other Methodist churches in the area than ever attended
Lichfield Road. We hope very shortly to announce that the contracts have been exchanged and the church sold.

David Mills -  Trustee of Lichfield Road and Circuit Treasurer

Saturday 24th July 2010 :  6:30 to 9:00 pm

The SUTTON PARK METHODIST CIRCUIT organised & ran a very fitting and enjoyable 'This is your Life' tribute evening to the retiring
Superintendent Minister of the Circuit, the Revd. John Ingyon. It was organised jointly by Margaret his wife, Mrs. Sue Stewart from Four Oaks,
and the Circuit Stewards. It was an informal evening to celebrate John's 40 years in the Methodist Ministry, beginning in Texas, USA, and ending
in Sutton Coldfield. Light Refreshments were enjoyed by all. It was held in the Wesley Hall & Church Centre, here at South Parade Methodist Church.

For Rev Tony Platts for leading us in the Breaking of Bread and the Drinking of the Cup.
For farmer John Gilmour for the use of his farm land.
For David Hodkinson for putting up the Crosses.
For everyone who attended.
For Jesus who loved us and gave Himself for us - What a wonderful Saviour!
Christ has Risen Indeed - Alleluia!

CHURCH PROJECT REPORT : APRIL 2010

We are pleased to confirm that we have raised the £2000 pledged to the Ebrook Centre, and have received a letter of grateful thanks
for the difference the refurbishment of  the coffee lounge has made to the Service Users. The money was raised from a Quiz,
coffee mornings, an auction, the concert by the Davies Singers, the Chinese New Year Party and individual donations.

Church Council agreed that the next project will be the Birmingham Talking Newspaper Association for the Blind, to help with
updating from a tape to a digital system. The Newspaper goes out to over 500 people. We have already raised £1000 towards the
new project. This includes £267 from the recent Quiz :

from Marion Peters & Ruth Dennis, on behalf of the Project Committee.

Excerpt from Birmingham Mail of Mon 18th Jan  2010 :

"A Piano playing family, originally from Tyneside, have proved that six hands are better than two, by helping to raise more than £1000 for a children's cancer charity.

The trio, grandmother Dorothy, her daughter Pauline & grand-daughter Naomi,
encouraged their pupils to collect sponsor money for CLIC Sargent.

And the Sutton Coldfield family are planning a repeat performance this year.
Dorothy first began learning the piano when she was ten. She passed on her
love of music to daughter Pauline, who began lessons when she was eight.
She in turn taught Naomi, who first played at the age of five.

With pupils aged between 4 and 70 plus, more than 70 people were involved
in the sponsored practice, which culminated in the concert.

CHURCH PROJECT : December 2009

THANK YOU to everyone who supported the recent Church Project Coffee Morning, which raised £125. Ruth Dennis

and also many thanks to the Davies Singers for staging 'Christmas Melody', with the West Midland Fire Services Band.
This Concert was much enjoyed by a large audience and raised £654.30 for the Church Project, the Ebrook Centre.
This means we have raised the £2000 which we promised to the Ebrook Centre.

Please give any suggestions for a new project to Church Project members, Doreen, Ruth & others.

Methodist Homes Shoppers Lunch, December 2009

I would like to thank all the willing helpers of this event last Saturday - this includes the male washing-up team!!
Everyone seemed to enjoy the meal and we have made over £480 - an increase on last year which is wonderful.
We are now selling Quiz sheets at £1 each, and Janet Granger will announce the winner in about a month.
There is a prize!  Please give her your completed sheets.
Again many thanks   Gill Wallwork.

Shoe Box Appeal 2009

Thanks to the generosity of all who contributed to this year’s appeal, 138 shoe boxes are now en-route to their final destination.
Your efforts will bring joy to the children who receive them. A big “Thank you” to everyone at church, and to friends in the
community, who have made this possible.       Maria Jones, Kath Waller and T.A.G. members.
